March 2014 Reader - The Rent Collector

Posted by Chantal Boaza on

This month's book club book is The Rent Collector by Camron Wright. The Rent Collector is a fiction novel about the survival of a family who lives in a Cambodian dump (literally!). I've read this one already and really wanted to share it with our book clubbers because I found the story to be surprisingly happy and positive despite the despair of it's setting. Those who were at our opening night celebrations will remember we had a Skype call with author Camron Wright who is a member of the Church living in Utah. Camron's son is a film-maker and made a documentary...

February 2014 Reader - Written on Our Hearts

Written on Our Hearts

If you have ever found the Old Testament intimidating, you're not alone. The less-familiar history, themes, and language, coupled with the length of the book, make it a difficult read for many. But author Emily Freeman loves the Old Testament, and as she shares some of the wonderful things she has learned in her study of this book of scripture, you will find yourself coming to love it too.

Written on Our Hearts is not a commentary or an intensive doctrinal study. Instead, Emily writes about the stories of the Old Testament, stories of trusting and overcoming and enduring and believing. Within these stories are all kinds of applications for the challenges we face today.

"There will come a moment in your life," the author says, "when you or someone you love will struggle with a challenge so great you will wonder how you will make it through. In that moment you will long to better understand the Savior's role as the Deliverer, and to do that you must go to the book of scripture that describes that role the best—the Old Testament."

Discover the delivering power of the Lord yourself in the pages of this book—and experience the scriptures in a new, more personal way!

January 2014 Reader - My Name Used to be Muhammad

Posted by Chantal Boaza on

Welcome to Lehi's Tent Book Club!

I'm so excited to be in a book club again!  I LOVE to read.  It's my favourite pastime.  Unfortunately with four kids and everything that comes with being a working mum I don't have nearly as much time to read as I'd like to, which means that when I do get a chance to read, I want it to be worth my while.  The aim of Lehi's Tent Book Club is to read and share literature that adds value to one's life.  Books will be varied so be prepared to get out of your comfort zone.  We'll be reading topics ranging from gospel doctrine to romantic fiction and everything in between.  Many books we read will be LDS themed but some will just be good, wholesome, worth-while reads.  We invite your suggestions and welcome your input and encourage positive, constructive and uplifting insights.

Lehi's Tent Book Club is an interactive online forum for anyone who shares my passion for good books.  We will read one book a month.  I'm a bit late with the first book so I apologise but in future the book will be announced mid-way through the month for the following month.  Though it was previously suggested that we will put together a list for the year, we have decided that we will announce books month by month so we don't miss out on new releases.

Every so often we will have in-store events for you all to attend and we will invite the author to join us (usually via Skype) for a live chat.  For those not in Brisbane, we will post a video of our chat on the website.

Exclusive Offer:  We are pleased to offer a 10% discount off the book of the month when purchased between the announcement date and the end of the following month (i.e. the offer will be open for the February book from mid-Jan when the book is announced to the end of Feb).  To claim your discount please enter BOOKCLUB as the discount code.  This discount is only applicable to the book and doesn't include shipping.
